MAXAT Berberine consists of 100% pure berberine which is found in the roots of certain bitter herbs and plants, including cork oak and barberry. Many indigenous peoples around the world over has used berberine as a natural remedy primarily to stabilize blood sugar levels but also to support cardiovascular health. Since berberine supports normal blood sugar levels and increases insulin sensitivity, it plays an important role in controlling appetite and sugar cravings. Therefore, it can be used daily in conjunction with meals or sporadically in conjunction with high-calorie 'cheat days'. By taking berberine in conjunction with meals, the negative effects of meals on blood sugar can be reduced.
How does berberine work? Recent studies have highlighted the effect of berberine, which works primarily by a) activating adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase ( AMPK) and b) stimulate the release of glucagon-like peptide-1 ( GLP-1). AMPK is often described as the body's energy sensor and AMPK activation plays an important role in the breakdown of sugar and fatty acids. GLP-1 is a hormone that is naturally produced in the intestine after food intake and plays an important role in the body's blood sugar regulation by stimulating insulin secretion and reducing appetite. Since berberine activates AMPK and stimulates GLP-1 release can blood sugar levels and appetite reduce which in the long term can contribute to weight loss. Berberine's effects on AMPK and GLP-1 are considered to be the central mechanisms of action behind its benefits and the blood sugar-lowering effect has been proven through clinical studies.

Product description
Berberine is a plant-based alkaloid found in the roots and bark of certain plants and has a long history of use among indigenous peoples for its potential health benefits. More recently, research has justified why berberine has a long history of use by highlighting its ability to regulate blood sugar and cholesterol levels, which in turn has a variety of positive effects on the body.
Elevated blood sugar and cholesterol levels can eventually lead to serious complications such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Berberine's blood sugar and cholesterol-lowering effects can therefore help reduce the risk of developing the above-mentioned complications if used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle.
How does berberine address insulin resistance?
Insulin resistance is a condition in which the body's cells no longer respond as effectively to insulin, a hormone that is crucial for regulating the amount of blood sugar (glucose). When cells become resistant to insulin, more insulin is required to transport glucose from the blood into the cells, which leads to elevated levels of insulin in the blood and elevated blood sugar levels. People who have difficulty losing weight often have problems with insulin resistance, and it is very important that this condition is addressed if you want to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Berberine activates AMPK, an enzyme that acts as a "metabolic switch" in cells. AMPK increases glucose uptake in muscles and improves the action of insulin. This mechanism mimics the effects of physical activity and fasting. AMPK also stimulates glucose transporters (GLUT4) to the cell surface. This allows cells to take up more glucose from the blood, independent of insulin, and this contributes to the clinically proven blood sugar-lowering effect of berberine. For these reasons, berberine helps make the body more insulin sensitive and addresses insulin resistance when taken continuously.
Below are described cellular mechanisms that berberine can affect and its effects on the body:
Increases satiety hormones: Berberine can stimulate the release of GLP-1, a hormone that signals satiety to the brain and can help you feel less hungry.
AMPK activation: AMPK is the body's energy sensor and plays a role in energy regulation and metabolism. Berberine can activate AMPK, which can lead to increased fat burning and reduced appetite.
Effect on intestinal flora: Berberine may have a positive effect on intestinal flora, which in turn may affect appetite and make one less inclined to crave unhealthy foods.
